Outside!

Casey wanted to go outside from the minute we got in the car.  So, after a quick diaper change & a change into jeans, outside he went.  He screamed with excitement, chatted with the neighbors, scared some birds, waved to & barked at some dogs, and enjoyed playing ball.   Then he banged on the garage door insisting we go in for dinner.

He started saying lotion and hi five within the last couple of days & he puts together 2 or 3 words at a time.

Bitten, again

I hear this was deserved.

UPDATE: Apparently Casey tackled the playground bully because he wanted the ball. Casey had him pinned down, and his only defense was to bite him.

Sick again. This time we have a double ear infection & bronchitis. Dr. Sue thought it might have been pneumonia & because it was Friday wanted to be on the safe side...so Casey & his dad made an exciting trip to the hospital for bloodwork & chest x-rays. We told him to lay off the booze, but he just doesn't want to listen.

These are some photos from the week Caroline visited.

Here's the allergic reaction he had...and it was 1000X worse on his stomach. It totally freaked me out.

Casey hugged Caroline about a zillion times. (Note: She didn't develop a rash or catch any ailment from the boy).

The first 2 are from dinner & later yesterday. My boy still loves mangoes. He didn't even try to paint with them this time, he just scarfed them down after he ate the rest of his meal.
He walked around all evening with his hand(s) in his pockets. And he can say pocket.

The Wardells gave us some Halloween costumes the didn't use last year. I wanted to see if they'll fit when Halloween rolls around. Not sure about this one, but Casey laughed the whole time he had it on & kept saying Cookie.

It's beautiful out today, so I decided to take Casey to a little park/beach near our house prior to heading home. The weather was fabulous, but Casey had no interest in trying out the swings (he screamed like I was injuring him) and did not want to get down to go on the slides or walk around. Instead, he clung to me saying"birdie" and "doggie, woof woof". He finally got down as we were walking to the car. Then he turned, waved & said "byebye birdies". I have to go read books or he may try to stage a coup d'etat.

This spider was on our screen door this morning. It was v. large, had a really cool web, and as of Monday was living on our fence. Now if I could train it to eat all the mosquitos...
I figured if I took a picture of a spider, I might as well take some of Casey.

Bitten

Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T

When my phone rang at about 9:20 I thought it was going to be a work related headache. Upon hearing Casey's teacher on the other end of the phone, I immediately thought I was going to hear news of vomiting or injury requiring an ambulance ride. Instead, she informed me that he had been bitten. He was ok--no broken skin, back to playing after they iced it--but the policy is to alert the parents (and I don't think they wanted me to freak out when I went to get him & saw chopper marks on his poor little cheek). He was fine when I went to pick him up, save for the bite shaped bruise on his cheek. His little girlfriend bit him when he wouldn't give her the toy he was playing with. He went back to playing with the little girl after she was done with her time out & he was released from being iced.

I did receive a lovely pamphlet on the biting policy from the CDC, which I suppose could be considered a "we let someone try to eat your child...sorry" gift. Casey called it a book & unfolded & folded it the whole ride home, saying book every 20 seconds.

Labor Day Weekend

Leigh & Mike came over to visit Friday night. They played with Casey, who was not interested in going to bed because he was enjoying his visitors. Sadly, they're planning to move in the relatively near future and we have threatened to visit when they do.
For the remainder of the weekend, we had a lovely time hanging out by the pool. It made we want to get a landscape architect to design a lovely yard for me us. I need to find the guy who is responsible for this house...

rash

Our tot started getting a rash on his tummy Saturday. It didn't get better. Although it didn't bother him in the least, Daddy took him to see Dr. Sue on Monday...she said it was an allergic reaction of some sort. It seemed to be going away, but I kept him home on Tuesday to be safe. Tuesday afternoon it seemed worse (to me, his slightly neurotic mother) when I inspected his little belly. He stayed home again Wednesday and Grandma Z was kind enough to watch him for a little bit while I went to the dentist. He was less blotchy. Today he went back to prison (with a note from the pedi saying he's not contagious*). He hasn't been bothered at all and he hasn't scratched, but I hope it doesn't happen again. I don't like this hive business. And I don't like that we don't know what caused it.

*See, Uncle Jay, he didn't give you measles or some other strange ailment.

On Wednesday Caroline & Aunt Cheryl ventured up from the south for a visit. Uncle Jay joined them yesterday.

Casey has been enjoying his time playing with Caroline. I think Caroline is quite enjoying her time with Case, as she's taken to calling him, even more.

Yesterday they hung out at our pool*

*the above picture was borrowed from Caroline's blog

Today we had the Zukowski contingent, the visiting southerners, the grandparents Rubin & the Blankenhorns over for a BBQ. The weather was fabulous and it appeared a nice time was had by all. Casey enjoyed making both grandmothers fret by playing at the edge of the pool.
We neglected to take pictures...so if anyone else did & feels like emailing them, we'll be willing to post them.

This picture was not very attractive...so it's been removed. And I can't get rid of the stupid underlining.

Yuck Stuff

Someone went home early because he threw up during lunch.

Any guesses?

Sunday, August 17, 2008

We spent the afternoon lounging by the pool. Aunt Jessica, Aunt Cristen & Papa joined us. Casey did not even attempt to jump in on his own. He did try to help keep the pool clean by dunking the skimmer head in the pool repeatedly.
Grandma joined us at dinner time. Casey shoveled cheese into his mouth by the fistful.

Today we visited with friends Dave and Aimee. Casey made some new friends (they have two kids, 4 and 6) and had a couple of firsts. First time on a trampoline. First time in the pool by himself. Face down. Their pool has actual steps, and Casey was sitting on the first step tossing toys around with Robbie. In the blink of an eye (literally), he was floating. The ordeal lasted less than a second. Kudos to both Carrie and Casey for their handling of the incident, as neither of them shrieked. Had Carrie not told me, I would not have known.

EDIT: This is Carrie. I did NOT try to drown Casey. He didn't even cough or sputter when I retrieved him from the pool. Seriously, I blinked & he was in. He is fine--he was fine then. Also, don't suggest I watch him or the like. I will get angry & yell.

Casey had his 15 month checkup today (yes, I know he's almost 16 months old). He smiled and blew kisses to Dr. Sue & the office staff, and he talked up a storm for Dr. Sue. Everything looks good, he got some shots and maintained his composure throughout.

When we got home, I fed him some ice cream (he got shots today, people) and then we played. He decided to check out this book on Dali when the thunderstorms drove us indoors.

New(er) words: chicken, buggies, sheep& baabaa.

Casey likes to read books. One of his current faves is Moo, Baa, LaLaLa! by Sandra Boynton

New(er) words: chicken, buggies, sheep& baabaa, hey hey, please.

Casey likes to read books. One of his current faves is Moo, Baa, LaLaLa! by Sandra Boynton

Here's a little excerpt:
"A cow says MOO."
"A sheep says BAA."
"Three singing pigs say LA LA LA!" (Casey makes all these noises)

"'No, no!' you say, 'that isn't right. (Casey waggles his finger and says nono)
The pigs say OINK all day and night.'"

I think his participation in the book reading is fabaliss.

Other faves include: Good Night, Gorilla, Barnyard Dance, Hey! Wake Up! (he says hey hey now, per the above) and Clifford's Noisy Day (he says pop at the correct point in the book, too).

Saturday we put together Casey's new climbing toy & hung out by the pool. Yesterday the NJ Rubin contingent came over for a belated bday celebration. Casey enjoyed hanging out with the grandparents & aunt Rubin. He even kind of said Jessica. He charmed the workers & patrons at our favorite ice cream shop, even prompting a woman watching from an SUV in the parking lot (yes, kind of scary) to declare him "a precious angel". He said byebyehello to everyone & waved at all the cars driving past.

Friday, August 8, 2008

Our boy loves to have someone read to him. He'll pick up a book and back himself onto your lap. Sometimes he'll have you read the same book repeatedly (like his mother did with Button Soup). Rumor has it Papa used to hide the book so he didn't have to read it again. And there are other family members who hid Aunt Cheryl's favorite book, Squirrel Nutkin.

New slide photos added to the July 31st post

Just an FYI
Me & Casey in Maine.   There are rarely photos of the two of us taken.   I blame Matt.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Casey was happy as a clam when I arrived to retrieve him this afternoon. We came home, went for a long walk, read a bunch of books, had some dinner, and then he laughed and laughed and laughed while we were playing. I think his laughter is my favorite sound. Daddy went to get Casey's newest toy and Casey desperately wanted to push his car. So we scraped around the neighborhood until the mosquitoes swarmed me.

He did not want to come inside--and I even tried to entice him indoors with ice cream. After a lovely arched back screaming flailing tantrum, we read more books, took a bath and now he's peacefully sleeping.

In another breaking development, Casey has been talking up a storm. New(er) words: flower, Casey (sounds like Sea-Sea), pool, foot, eye, chicken, mango, please (peas), sucker (sussa) , baa (like a sheep), quack--like a duck, and roar. We've been looking at the pictures in our living room and points out Daddy (of course), Casey, and his cousins. Brady = body or bardy. Caroline = jello. Yes, jello.

I think Casey looks like Aunt Cristen when she was a l'il girl here.

And here he looks like me.

Here he's very happy.  He LOVES this slide.
